edit this template Welcome to the Wikimedia Foundation website.

Thanks for being here! This wiki does not exactly follow the same rules as the other Wikimedia projects, since it is not open to all for editing, and in case of disagreement, the organ of decision will be the Board. A rule of thumb however is that if we gave you access, that means we trust you. So please, do not be shy in editing this site. There is ample work for everyone :-)

Welcome

Welcome. :-) I'm happy that besides bot-like boring tasks such as fixing double redirects you also found some fun stuff like adding username links to Staff. :-D Per talk, there's a consensus that all names should be linked to the user page on Meta or mw:: would you like to do it? It would be great! Thanks, Nemo 06:48, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Vision (pt)

Hi. I'm not sure why you chose the page title "Vision (pt)". The proper page title would be "Visão", wouldn't it? It looks like a parenthetical is only used when there is a name conflict between multiple languages. You also need to update Template:VisionLang. --MZMcBride (talk) 18:21, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I didn't look at all of the languages, and of those that I did look at they were all following that format. Thanks for pointing it out to me - feel free to delete Vision (pt). Updated the template (I was getting used to the translate extension doing it for me!). The Helpful One 18:31, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Cool. All set. Thanks for working on this. :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 22:29, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Italicizing short quote

Hi. Regarding this edit, why are you doing this? If you feel the quote should be italicized, you should update the master template and sync to Meta-Wiki and elsewhere. I can't understand why you'd add explicit markup to every user page rather than setting it as the default or allowing users to italicize or not on an individual basis. --MZMcBride (talk) 22:13, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. It's because there are variations between how people use the short quote parameter. For example, Philippe, Sumana and Jay use personal quotes, whilst Janice and Rachel use quotes from other people (also referencing their names) and there are also cases when users make use of more than one quote, as Steph does. Applying this markup in the template itself would end up with authors' names being italicised, which isn't what I intend. The Helpful One 22:26, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, a bit nasty, but at least it makes sense now. Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 22:40, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sure, no problem.  :-) The Helpful One 22:42, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Updated user page

You said to let you know when I updated my user page. I've finally done that. Thanks.

User:Jmorgan vs. User:Jtmorgan

Hi TheHelpfulOne,

In response to your suggestion here I'm editing with the account I can log on to, Jmorgan. I would like to 'claim' Jtmorgan tho, so if you can redirect it or whatever I would be very appreciative! Thanks again for shepherding me through this process... Jmorgan (talk) 02:41, 22 May 2012 (UTC) (User:Jtmorgan on enwiki and meta)Reply

Hi Jonathan, no problem, that should all be sorted for you, so you can login using the username Jtmorgan with the same password that you are using at the moment. The Helpful One 18:02, 22 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

hey THO,

Thanks for letting me know, I'll copy over my meta page :) JSeddon (talk) 19:11, 28 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Administrator

I've just assigned you administrator rights here. It feels like I should say something deep and profound, but all I've got it... "go with the force." Enjoy. Philippe (WMF) (talk) 15:04, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. That was an easier RFA than most, but I guess I'll blame your recovery from illness (age is tough to overcome!) for a lack of more witty words. ;-) Thehelpfulone 15:39, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
/me just saw your sass. You'll pay, young one. You'll pay. Philippe (WMF) (talk) 08:25, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Thehelpfulone.

Thanks again for the welcome. The script to fix links that I said via IRC is ready (example). For preventing mistakes, I will only convert links with a defined text to display: [(URL) (text)].

Do you think a temporal use of the flood flag is a good idea? I think so. ;-)

Regards. --invadinado (TALK - SUL) 19:36, 22 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yay! :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 19:52, 22 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Invadinado, thanks for doing this so quickly! Just a couple of things that I noticed from that diff:
 • Zbiórka pieniędzy i granty instead of converting this to Zbiórka pieniędzy i granty could you just convert it to Zbiórka pieniędzy i granty, making it a local link instead of an interwiki one?
 • Do you need the extra m: for links such as tutaj, raport i zdjęcia ze zlotu or Raport i zdjęcia?
Other than these I don't see any other problems and would be more than happy to give you a temporary flood flag - thanks again for helping out with this! :-) Thehelpfulone 20:45, 22 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great, all ready. I've changed the script with your suggestions. Thank you for them. --invadinado (TALK - SUL) 15:27, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I've noticed one more thing, which isn't as important, but would it be possible for you to set the script logic so that if it's already editing a page, then it could also replace Image: with File: just because that's the newer prefix? This would only be for pages that you are already editing, not to edit a page just for that purpose, but if it's too much extra work (in terms of changing the script) then don't worry about it. Thehelpfulone 15:34, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, I could make the most of the cosmetic changes that Pywikipediabot provides by default. However, I think they are not too debugged, so I would prefer not making these edits for now, if you don't mind. --invadinado (TALK - SUL) 15:02, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes that makes perfect sense to me, I agree that it would be better not to run cosmetic changes if the scripts haven't been fully debugged. I've gone ahead and given you the flooder flag, please only do these link fixes whilst you have the flag on and let me know if there are any problems. Thehelpfulone 15:10, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks. I will go for it. --invadinado (TALK - SUL) 15:29, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Done, 546 pages were changed. :-) --invadinado (TALK - SUL) 15:55, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, that was very efficient! Would you be able to run that script on Meta too? Thehelpfulone 15:57, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, of course. I have a bot account running there, but it is only authorized to fix double redirects. I can request an authorization to make these edits. --invadinado (TALK - SUL) 16:06, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dear Thehelpfulone,

Apology for removal of admin rights

Hi THO, I'm sorry for the abrupt removal of admin rights on this wiki, which wasn't announced in advance. We've been talking internally for a while about making the governance structure of this wiki more clear, i.e., decisions regarding content and practices in this wiki are ultimately up to WMF staff. There may be projects during which it makes sense to assign temporary adminship to volunteers, as well, but we wanted to start with a clear separation of roles and responsibilities.

I apologize, though, for the hasty implementation of this decision! I didn't intend to express any disrespect or distrust. On the contrary, I'm very grateful for all the work you and other volunteers have done on the Wikimedia Foundation wiki over the years, and I hope you won't be too discouraged by this experience. I'll be posting an update about the next steps for wikimediafoundation.org on the wikimedia-l mailing list soon.

You know where to find me if you want to talk, and I hope this finds you well! Gyoung (talk) 05:01, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've already been in touch with you privately but I just wanted to publicly thank you for your apology Gayle. I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday and look forward to figuring out how to fix those things I emailed you about when you get back. Thehelpfulone 18:32, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Friendly space policy

Hi. Why did you add policy-board to Friendly space policy? --MZMcBride (talk) 03:08, 13 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I must have not realised that policy-staff existed when I added that, I've switched the template and updated the page accordingly. Thehelpfulone 22:37, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Komite Audit

Why is this up for deletion? It seems mostly harmless. It can be updated if needed, surely. PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:59, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, you make a valid point - I'm undone my edit and made a couple of tweaks. Months later I'm still waiting for a response from communications about how they want to handle translations here (if at all they want translations!), which is why m:Translation requests/WMF is looking a bit bare. Staff and Contractors Page

Hello!

I was wondering if I could get your help in adding two people to the UX staff and contractors pages

YuFei Liu — Visual Designer (contract) —
Prateek Saxena — User Experience Prototyper (contract) — Wearing Cloak of Invisibility

Can you also remove ", Language Engineering team" from Pau Giner's description as we don't use that level of specificity on the other designers titles.

Thanks in advance!

Purchasing and disbursements procedures

Hi. There's a bit of confusion about whether Purchasing and disbursements procedures is a Board policy (policy-board). The page has been switched back to policy-staff for now, but maybe you can take another look? --MZMcBride (talk) 17:55, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
