Additional cleanup part

You probably also want to clean up MediaWiki:Clearyourcache. I won't touch this exclusive WMF realm. — regards, Revi 23:07, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Done! Thanks for raising that here. Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 23:10, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

typo in MediaWiki message

Hi, on MediaWiki:Sessionfailure incognito is misspelled as 'inkognito' --Nintendofan885T&Cs apply 20:28, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Nintendofan885, thanks for letting me know. Fixed. Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 20:30, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

AF#2

Hi. Looks like AF#2 is copied from meta AF#39 rather than #72 as in the note. Also do we need to opt out user namespaces to reduce FP like Special:AbuseLog/28? --WhitePhosphorus (talk) 13:12, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey @WhitePhosphorus, of course, had multiple filters (incl #72) opened at the same time, and copied URL of the wrong one. Fixed. User namespace opted out, I'll create another filter to "lock" user NS only to the userspace owner (and privileged users). Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 13:17, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Translations

Hi Martin, thanks for enabling SUL and activating the translate extension. As far as I can see, we will have to add translation markup to many pages, mark them for translation and import manual translations into the translation system. If I can help here with my experience as a translation admin in a few other projects, just let me know. Best regards, --Ameisenigel (talk) 19:18, 2 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Ameisenigel, I'm glad you like the changes. Indeed, many of the currently existing pages will have to be marked for translation before any actual translation can happen here. I'm not sure what's the plan for that: I'm pinging @GVarnum-WMF, who will likely be able to answer that question. Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 19:48, 2 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
does the translation admins have access to the "editor" group? It means, they can edit legal-related pages? Thingofme (talk) 01:24, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Special:ListGroupRights says no. --Ameisenigel (talk) 04:10, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Thingofme As @Ameisenigel says :). They can, however, mark pages in restricted namespaces for translation, see [1] for an example.
If you meant to ask "would volunteers be able to become translation admins", that's not my call (but @GVarnum-WMF's). Personally, I don't think that right is much useful without also being able to edit the translatable pages (as you can't ie. prepare sth for translation without the editing capability). Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 07:10, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
see in Incubator: incubator:MediaWiki:Titleblacklist-incorrect-title. This page is in a restricted namespace (MediaWiki), but it's still translatable, even we can't translate directly and only via Special:LanguageStats and the "Translate this page" button. I think we are definitely open to community assistance on things like helping set the wiki up for translation. However, we are also interested in limiting any consequences for editing the main namespaces to Foundation personnel. Preserving a balance between openness and protection is complicated. As such, I suspect that we will continue to limit editing even for translation setup purposes to staff or small groups of volunteers. I am discussing options with folks, but I suspect groups like the Stewards, Global Sysops, and Communications Committee will be asked to help (if considered necessary) after staff/contractor volunteers - and before larger groups not already under some level of documented participation with Foundation governance/operations. Ideally, once things are setup and folks are fully trained, any future content will be setup for translation. So, this is primarily an issue for processing past/existing content on this wiki. In theory, once things are setup for translation, any volunteer with a registered account should be able to help with making the content available in non-English languages. All of that said, this is all something of an experiment, we are still pondering the best setup long-term, and we will make adjustment/improvements as needed (as always in Wikimedia). --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 11:04, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Redirect request

Hi. Can you kindly edit Terms of Use/fa and make it a redirect to Terms of Use? There is no Persian (fa) translation available, yet the page that is linked form the bottom of the mobile view pages is the /fa page so users end at a non-existent terms of use which refutes the purpose.

phab:T297545 provides more details. Thanks! Huji (talk) 15:53, 11 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Huji, thanks for your message! Unfortunately, you're asking the wrong person, I think. I'm involved only in the technical side of things (converting foundationwiki to be a SUL wiki, mostly) – I'm not involved in the policy side of things.
@GVarnum-WMF should be able to follow-up here and give you the answer on this. Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 20:25, 11 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Special:AbuseFilter/2 false positive

Hello. Special:AbuseFilter/2 is preventing me from welcoming users on this site. Can you please adjust or disable this filter? --MZMcBride (talk) 22:13, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hey @MZMcBride! Thanks for leaving me a message. I'm replying from my volunteer identity, as my only WMF task related to foundationwiki was to SULify it.
I added user talk namespace to the filter's exemptions, hopefully it should no longer prevent welcoming. Let me know if it doesn't help! Best wishes, Martin Urbanec (talk) 08:06, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
This worked now, thanks!! --MZMcBride (talk) 21:43, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
